CHURCHES
We are a strongly religious community of varied faiths, as is typical of Upstate New York. There are six churches in the village and seven others within a 15 minute drive from the village limits. Most major denominations are represented in Cooperstown and the places of worship are worthy of a tour of their own. They include Cooperstown’s earliest church - the Presbyterian with its magnificent Tiffany windows, the Christ Episcopal Church that is an architectural jewel and has just been carefully restored and St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with its larger than life stained glass window scenes from the life of Christ. The First Baptist, United Methodist and Church of Christ are also located in the village.

SHOPPING
Cooperstown offers a wide variety in shopping choices, but what you will not find are the impersonal, fast-paced box stores. On the tree-lined Main Street, there is something for everyone. Arts and crafts, books, boutiques, clothing, home furnishings, jewelry, quilts, and more are some of the choices. For the baseball fan, there are plenty of shops to choose from. Nearly all the shops are independently-owned, some for generations. Most shop owners take the time to say "hello," offer a friendly smile and lend their expertise. Within a five minute drive from downtown, The Cooperstown Commons offers a modern shopping plaza atmosphere, with small shops, a large superrmarket and fast food options.

HEALTH CARE
Bassett Healthcare began in the early 1920s when Edward Severin Clark built a hospital at the request of one of Central New York's devoted physicians. When completed he named it in her honor as the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. Today, Bassett Healthcare is considered one of the finest rural health systems in the nation.
Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown is a 180-bed acute care inpatient teaching facility. Also included on the campus is the Bassett Clinic, an outpatient primary and surgical specialty care center.
In addition to Cooperstown, Bassett Healthcare is a system of five hospitals, 23 community health centers and 14 school-based health centers in eight counties, covering 5,000 square miles. Nearly 235 physicians are part of the Bassett Physician Group, a group practice of professionals engaged in patient care, teaching, and research. Bassett Healthcare is the region's largest employer with more than 2,500 employees.
